Lot Essay

Anna Banana is a Canadian artist known for her performance art, writing, and work as a small press publisher. She has been described as an "entrepreneur and critic" and is credited with pioneering the artistamp, a postage-stamp-sized medium. In 2018, Kunstverein presented the first comprehensive retrospective in the Netherlands of Ms. Banana’s ground breaking oeuvre, highlighting her roles as a prolific artist, publisher, collector, and costume designer.

The postcard introduces the VILE INTERNATIONAL DOUBLE ISSUE VOLUME 2/3 - MAIL ART ANNA BANANA 1976, created in collaboration with Bill Gaglione. The current lot holds immense significance as a rare artifact in the history of Mail Art.
