"Una forma pittorica può avere anche valore di apparizione? L'organismo rigorosamente formale di una pittura può contenere la leggerezza, il respiro di una evocazione, l'improvviso soprassalto della memoria? Penso spesso così d'essere un pittore di storie. Se i miei sentimenti più profondi, i miei ricordi, i miei giudizi sulle cose, le mie insofferenze e persino i miei errori e terrori si condensano nell'andamento di una linea, nella luminosità di un tono, sento che il mistero con cui la mia intera vita sfocia nella pittura può essere inteso all'inverso e permettere alle immagini della pittura di risalire fino alle origini della mia vita. Io spero che nelle mie pitture circoli un presentimento, una speranza, come di un'alba. Vorrei che la mia pittura recasse una allusione sempre più chiara ad un mondo percorso da passioni..."

"Can a pictorial form also have a value of appearance? Can the strictly formal organism of a painting contain the lightness, the breath of an evocation, the sudden burst of memory? This way I often think to be a painter of stories. If my deepest feelings, my memories, my judgements on things, my suffering and even my mistakes and fears condensate in the pattern of a line, in the lightness of a tone, I feel that the mystery with which my entire life flows in the painting can be inversely interpreted and allows the painting images to go all the way back to the origins of my life. In my paintings, I hope that a premonition is spread, a chance, as of a dawn. I wish my paintings would create an always clearer allusion to a world paved by passions"
