The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has been subject to a wax relining. It is held under tension and remains stable. The stretcher retains all its keys and is structurally sound.
In natural light, some of the original impasto remains appreciable in the foliage of the trees. There has been some thinning to the upper paint glazes in the sky, and in the canopy of the trees, likely as a result of the relining process. There is an even pattern of craquelure across the surface, with some associated losses and subsequent infill, for instance visible lower-left in the darker tones. Stretcher bar marks are visible along all edges. Examination under UV reveals a historic campaign of restoration to the edges of the painting, as well as in the area above the tree stumps, far-right and scattered retouching throughout. Further examination is impaired by the varnish. The bucolic nature of the scene remains fully appreciable.
