First edition of the Ninth Symphony, Beethoven's last and greatest symphony. This is the retail issue without the subscriber's list (included in the pre-ordered copies only), and omitting the word 'Partition' on the lithographic label on the upper cover. Kinsky pp. 377-378.

Large quarto (338 x 268mm). Op. 125, full score, 226 pages, lithographic title, engraved throughout, plate number 2322 (corners lightly bumped and creased, some light variable soiling). Publisher’s cloth-backed boards, large lithographic label on upper cover (spine worn and defective, upper cover almost detached, lower cover joint very weak, extremities rubbed). Provenance: A. Schindler (ink signature on title) – manuscript notes on metronome markings, transcribed from the music journal Caecilia (1827), pasted to inside front cover – pencil annotation on p. 73 – Otto Haas booksellers (on approval note, 7 November 1994, loosely inserted, attributing the signature and metronome markings to Beethoven's secretary Anton Schindler (1795-1864)).
