Alfred Sisley (1839-1899)
Three autograph letters signed (‘A. Sisley’) to an art dealer (‘Cher monsieur’), Moret-sur-Loing, 1895-1897
In French. Six pages in total, various sizes from 103 x 83mmm, with pencil notes on the verso of one of the letters. Provenance: Sotheby's, 28 May 1986, lot 295.

Letters relating to the handling and sale of a number of artworks. The first letter concerns the possible sale of three of his works, ‘L’Été au bord de l’eau’, ‘Temps de pluie sur le Loing’, and ‘Derniers jours d’autonne’. Another letter appears to decline an offer of sale – ‘My last attempt at selling to the Hôtel was enough for me’ – and expresses disappointment with his dealer for failing to deliver a number of artworks. He concludes ‘Believe, dear sir, in my regrets and in the expression of my very cordial feelings’.
