A portrait of Matisse in his middle age, signed by the artist.

The caricaturist and writer André Rouveyre (1879-1962) was a lifelong friend of Matisse. The two collaborated on Matisse’s Apollinaire, first published in 1952 in memory of their friend, the critic Guillaume Apollinaire (1880-1918).
