Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825)
Autograph letter signed (‘David’) to ‘Monsieur le Comte’ [de Daru, Intendant General of the French Empire], n.p. [Paris], 14 April 1810
In French. One page, 311 x 202mm, bifolium. Provenance: Sotheby's, 5 December 1991, lot 488.

Jacques-Louis David makes a request to Napoleon via Count Pierre de Daru, Intendant General of the French Empire and Napoleon’s advisor. David, First Painter of the French Empire, writes to Napoleon’s intendant general requesting him to ask the Emperor to make him an officer of the royal household. David cites the precedent of former First Painters who made the same request, notably, he writes, Le Brun under Louis XIV.
