The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This condition report was prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This work is in very good condition. It has a non-wax lining, which seems to be nicely stabilizing the paint layer without noticeably affecting any of the impasto. The paint layer is clean and varnished. There are a few tiny retouches in the upper sky, but the picture is otherwise in beautiful condition. In the lower left corner beneath the frame, “Copyrighted 1902 by Osborne Co. N.Y.” is stamped onto the canvas beneath the varnish. It was added after the work was painted, and may be weakened or removed if cleaned. This stamp in the lower left corner suggests that the work was used in reproduction at some point.
