Lot Essay

This work will be included in Betsy James Wyeth’s forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist’s work. On May 21, 1939, the schooner Peaceland wrecked on Doughnut Point, Martinsville, Maine. The present work depicts this catastrophe that brought the townspeople out to view.
