The present work is part of a series called Cowboys of the World, commissioned by John Morrell & Company for reproduction in their 1951 calendars. Each painting in the series covered a new calendar month and represented different regions of the world, the present work representing the American Northwest.

The masonite is flat and stable. Minor frame abrasion to extreme edges. Left edge is slightly uneven. A few scattered surface abrasions including a few scratches through the rear of the horse. One pindot loss in the mountains at lower center. A few drops of uneven varnish in the mountain at extreme right. Two discolored areas in the sky that slightly fluoresce may be original artist’s reworkings or older restoration.
