The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This condition report was prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This work is clean and lightly varnished. There is no wear or tear to the painting. Under ultraviolet light, one can see some rather broad retouches in the blonde border around the composition. There is an area of retouching at the top of the bicep of the left arm of the young woman, and another at the top of the right shoulder of the young man. There are some rather broad retouches in the patterns in the backs of the two chairs in front of these figures. It is unclear whether these retouches are actually necessary. The artist clearly intentionally worked on a very textured gesso layer. The work can certainly be hung as is, but the retouches could be re-examined.
