This work will be included in M. Ran’s forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist’s work.

According to Ms. Ran, the artist's nephew Edward Potthast II helped him exhibit and sell his work and it was not unusual for Edward II to give his uncle's paintings as gifts. The present work was presented as a wedding gift and is inscribed, "With my best wishes for health happiness & Success E. Potthast II."
