拍品專文

George de Forest Brush explored the mother and child theme throughout his career, producing numerous paintings of the subject and only one sculpture, the present Mother and Child. The sculpture portrays his wife holding their daughter and relates in composition to his 1894 painting of the same name in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Very few casts were produced of this sculpture, which the artist worked on over some thirty years, achieving "this quality of apparent ease, of inevitableness, that can only be the result of fully ripened thought." (The New York Times, June 29, 1919)
