Lot Essay

Gillette "Gil" Elvgren is best known today as America's preeminent pin-up artist of the twentieth century. As an American illustrator, he is widely known for his twenty-five year partnership with Coca-Cola during which he produced scenes of typical American family life as well as military subjects during World War II and the Korean War, in addition to his famous pin-up images. His now legendary series of pin-ups produced over a thirty year period for Brown & Bigelow calendars has largely defined his successful career.
