Lot Essay

Meteor, which has also been known as Spirit of Speed, was originally designed as a hood ornament for automobiles and cast in a series of thirteen between 1923 and 1924. In its sleek, stylized design, the work manifests Frishmuth's interest in the Art Deco movement. The present cast of Meteor was a gift to the current owner’s grandmother, Kathleen T. Auzin, from her boss at the Gorham Foundry upon her resignation from the company in the 1920s.
