The present work was published as an illustration for Louis Kaye’s short story “Forbidden Oasis" in the February 28, 1953 issue of The Saturday Evening Post. The story takes place in the Australian outback, following the struggles of a stockman named Chuck and the native tribe he swore to protect in exchange for land on which to settle his livestock. The present scene depicts a confrontation between Chuck and an aspiring stockman named Frazier, and is captioned, "'That's far enough' Chuck called. 'Turn there.' Frazier hesitated for a moment, then fired from the hip."
