The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This report was prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This work is not lined. The tacking edges have been reinforced. Five small repairs can be seen on the reverse. The painting is clean and varnished. Under ultraviolet light, one see that there is a small group of retouches in the sky to the right of the sun. There are a few spots of retouching in the upper trees. There are two areas of retouching in the center of the left side, both measuring about 1 inch square. There is another similarly sized area of retouching in the center of the right side. Some retouches have been added in the smoke, possibly to reduce some thinness. There is a horizontal area of restoration to the left of the smoke, perhaps addressing some paint loss, which runs about 4 inches horizontally by 3 inches vertically in some places. There are three or four retouches in the lower left corner. The work does not appear to have been noticeably abraded and should be hung in its current state.
