The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This condition report was prepared by Julius Lowy Frame & Restoring Company, Inc.:
The artwork is a gouache painting executed on an age appropriately oxidized millboard support. There are several small tears along the bottom edge of the artwork. The gouache media layers, which have been applied directly to the support, exhibit noticeable discoloration, particularly within the sky. There is a ring with in the sky where the original blue color is present. It is difficult to say without testing if the discoloration can be altered with cleaning or it is a result of fading and oxidation. There are also patches of flaking and abraded pigment in the lower left quadrant, to the left of the male figure’s walking stick, and in the upper left, within the dome of the building. Ultraviolet examination reveals a normal fluorescence of the artist’s materials with no prior restoration visible. Upon visual inspection, the artwork appears to have a noticeable amount of surface soiling above the media layers. The artwork is signed at the lower right.
