Philip Eliasoph writes of the present work, "Cadmus' proficiency as an egg yolk tempera painter is demonstrated in this still life. In tempera painting, impressionistic tonalities are not possible and a preconceived image is required. His command of realism is seen in the rendering of these inanimate objects.
