Lot Essay

Philip Eliasoph writes of the present work, "Cadmus' proficiency as an egg yolk tempera painter is demonstrated in this still life. In tempera painting, impressionistic tonalities are not possible and a preconceived image is required. His command of realism is seen in the rendering of these inanimate objects. Optical verism, compositional ingenuity, and a sense of order are synchronized here." (Paul Cadmus: Yesterday and Today, p. 79)
