This work is unlined and the original inscription by the artist is very faintly visible on the reverse. The tacking edges have been reinforced for proper stretching onto a new stretcher. The paint layer is cleaned, retouched and varnished. Under ultraviolet light a handful of tiny dots can be seen in the child’s face, hand and wrist. There a few other of these miniscule retouches in the lower left quadrant, in his coat. The edges show a small amount of frame abrasion which has also been retouched. The painting is in excellent condition and should be hung in its current state.
