The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This condition report was prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This work has been lined with wax as an adhesive. The stretcher is not original. One can see an inscription, date and signature on the reverse of the lining canvas that was copied from the reverse of the original canvas, a photograph of which is attached to the stretcher. Under ultraviolet light, one can see that the green rounded shapes suggesting trees on the center of the right side and the areas under the arches fluoresce very strongly. The only retouches run diagonally across the upper left corner, addressing a line of cracks. The lining is easily reversible. The surface looks well at present, but one would ideally change this lining, possibly leaving the canvas unlined.
