We would like to thank Andrea Henderson Fahnestock for her assistance with cataloguing this lot. This view of Mount Vesuvius is probably from a point in the northern end of the Bay of Naples near Posillippo, Italy, and appears to be a later, smaller version of Haseltine's The Bay of Naples (circa 1858)in the collection of the Figge Art Museum, Davenport, Iowa.

Lined. Frame abrasion to extreme edges. A few small areas of light, stable surface cracking in the tree top and lower left corner. Under ultraviolet light, scattered spots of inpainting around extreme edges, scattered dots in the sky and a concentration in the lower right corner.
