The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This report was prepared by Julius Lowy Framing and Restoring Company:
The artwork is an oil painting executed on a medium wove linen canvas which has been lined to an auxiliary canvas with BEVA (a thermoplastic adhesive) and stretched onto a five-member wooden stretcher. The canvas supports are in good and stable condition. There is a faint stretcher bar crease along the top edge and some minor craquelure within the upper left and right quadrants that are in stable condition. The oil based ground and paint layers are in good and stable condition overall. Ultraviolet examination reveals minor scattered in-painting covering small losses and selective craquelure. Upon visual inspection, the artwork appears to be clean with a recent application of synthetic resin varnish above the media layers. The artwork is in good condition overall requiring no treatment at this time.
