The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This report was prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation Inc.:
This painting is in good condition. The paint layer is clean. The canvas is unlined, but the reverse has been treated with Beva-371 and a very thin layer of crepeline has been applied to give slightly more strength to the work. Under ultraviolet light, one can see that there are two restorations in the trousers of the figure with the white shirt standing in the center of the left side, one in his buttocks and the other in his right thigh. Both of these restorations address older discolored restorations and small losses. There are also a few spots beneath the seated figure on the right side. There is clearly no abrasion to the work and it should be hung in its current state.
