This report was prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This impressive picture is in good condition. The large canvas is unlined and still on its original stretcher. The canvas has slightly relaxed but is generally very healthy. There is a vertical stretcher bar mark in the center. This crack is quite visible in the water and in the sky. Under ultraviolet light, there are a couple of spots in the clouds that may not be retouches, but there are broad and sloppy retouches around the stretcher marks in the center of the sky. Elsewhere, a few spots of pigment in the cliffs above the waterfall read darkly, but these may not be retouches. It seems that slight thinness has been retouched in some of the darkest colors in the rocks above and in the center of the waterfall. A re-examination of this restoration would certainly reveal the picture to be in excellent condition.
