Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This report was prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This work has been restored. It is thinly painted onto a fine piece of canvas. The only clearly visible restoration is a diagonal scratch or break in the canvas, beginning in the center of the right edge and extending diagonally downwards about 7 inches. The restorations here are quite visible to the naked eye. There is what seems to be an intentionally unresolved look to the work, which cannot be attributed to over-cleaning or discoloration. Whether or not there are other restorations beneath the fairly significant varnish is unclear, but it seems that the condition is quite good. The painting can be hung in its current condition, but it would benefit if the varnish were re-examined.
The condition of lots sold can vary widely due to factors such as age, previous damage, restoration, repair, and wear and tear. The nature of the lots sold means that they will rarely be in perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
