This work is unlined. The tacking edges are reinforced. The stretcher is original. Under ultraviolet light, one can see that the figures are unretouched except for a scratch in the left knee of the figure on the right. There is an isolated spot or two of retouching in the background in the right. There is a group of losses in the background in the upper left where the paint had been unstable. There is also a loss beneath the signature in the lower right measuring about half an inch square. The original color reads strongly under ultraviolet light in many areas, particularly in the shadows beneath the figures and the horseshoes, and in a few strokes in the upper right background.
