The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This report was prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This work is lined with a non-wax adhesive. The cracking is very slightly raised but there is no instability to the paint layer. The paint layer is clean and varnished. Under ultraviolet light, no retouches are visible in the sky. A few isolated cracks in the water have been retouched. Clearly defined retouches are difficult to identify, but there is an area that reads darkly under ultraviolet light in the water above the riders in the lower center that seems to be retouched. Some of this retouching seems to extend into the hills beyond the lake. Some of the original colors also shows strongly under ultraviolet light, for instance the profile of the mountain in the center and some of the foliage on the left side, and this may not be retouching.
The condition of lots sold can vary widely due to factors such as age, previous damage, restoration, repair, and wear and tear. The nature of the lots sold means that they will rarely be in perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
