Lot Essay

Carleton Wiggins was the father of eminent American Impressionist, Guy Carleton Wiggins, and grandfather of Guy Arthur Wiggins. Of the present work, Guy Arthur Wiggins wrote: "This picture was painted early in my grandfather's career after he had studied for several years with the renowned Hudson River School Master, George Inness. The bright palette and subject matter are typical of this period in his career." (unpublished letter, 2001)
