The present work depicts the First Parish Church, located in the Town Hall of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Félicie Waldo Howell moved to Washington, D.C., and studied at the Corcoran Art School before attending the Women’s School of Design in Philadelphia. Howell was a member of numerous artistic organizations, including the National Academy of Design, New York, the Concord Art Association, Massachusetts, and the American Watercolor Society, New York, among others. Her work is now held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois.
