Maurice Braun was born in Hungary in 1877 and moved to New York with his family in 1881. After attending the National Academy of Design in New York from 1897 to 1900, he studied under William Merritt Chase for a year. In 1909, Braun moved to San Diego, California, establishing himself as a preeminent Impressionist painter, also maintaining studios in New York and Connecticut. He additionally founded the San Diego Academy of Art. His work can be found in numerous museum collections, including the Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach, California, and Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California.
