The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas is laid down onto a panel and tacked over a stretcher. The tacking edges are covered with tape. Minor frame abrasion along the extreme edges. The surface is slightly dirty with a few hairline abrasions scattered in the background. Under ultraviolet light, inpainting scattered along the edges, most notably a concentration along the lower edge, an approximately nine inch area extending upward into the left of the sitter's chest and small spots, dots and dashes scattered elsewhere, including in the sitter's face and body. A discolored varnish may be masking further restoration.
