A collection of four photographs and two programs from Jimmy Carter's time at the U.S. Naval Submarine School, 1948-1951. The photographs, range in size from 83 x 107mm to 206 x 253mm, and include an informal bust portrait of Carter; a candid photo of Carter (in dress whites) and three friends (photo creased); a candid image of Carter aboard a moored submarine working a piece of artillery; a formal shot of Carter and crew aboard a submarine, presumably for the commissioning ceremonies for the U.S.S. K-1 on 10 November 1951.

The first of the two programs appears to correspond with the final photograph and is entitled, Commissioning Ceremonies U.S,.s. K-1 (SS K-1). New London, 10 November 1951. 214 x 138mm., bifolium. Carter is listed on the final page: "Lieutenant (JG) James E. Carter, Jr. USN Engineer Officer." The second program concerns the Graduation Exercises of the Eighty Seventh Officers' Class July - December 1948 - U.S. Naval Submarine School. New London, 17 December 1948. 215 x 143mm. (foxing and some soiling). With pencil notations most likely in the hand of James Earl CARTER on the third and fourth pages noting addresses of fellow classmates. Carter appears on the third page as "Ensign James Earl Carter, Jr. U.S. Navy."
