The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The image overall presents well though the painting appears to have undergone more than one campaign of restoration, most notably through the sky. The canvas has been relined and is stable on its stretcher. Slight cusping is visible along the upper edge of the canvas. The paint layer is stable under a clear varnish. Impasto highlights retain some of their texture and are nicely preserved. There are broad areas of retouching throughout the clouds upon close inspection; some of these areas have discolored over time. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms this and reveals extensive, feathered retouching addressing the craquelure throughout the sky, apparently carried out in more than one campaign. Some of this retouching has discoloured over time but the overall effect is not distracting to the naked eye. There is further feathered retouching to the craquelure pattern through the lower central and lower right sections and in some of the foliage at right. The painting is ready to hang in its present state. Please note the frame is sold as is.
