The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Each with frame abrasion and surface soiling as to be expected with age. Additional condition as noted below. Please note the frames are sold as is.
(a) Lovers fording a stream -- The paper is supported on the reverse by a canvas. The paper and canvas nailed to stretchers, visible at edges, with associated losses. Overall with fine craquelure. With scattered abrasions of various sizes and tearing in some places, most notably a 9 in. high 'J'-shaped abrasion at the lower right corner and a 2 in. long 'U'-shaped abrasion at the center upper edge. Examined under ultraviolet light, revealing scattered restorations.
(b) Lovers with birds and goats -- The paper is supported on the reverse by a board mounted on canvas. The paper and canvas nailed to stretchers, visible at edges, with associated losses. With several repaired tears extending from the lower edge, the longest approximately 17 in. long, with associated touch ups visible under natural light. Examined under ultraviolet light, revealing aforementioned restorations and additional scattered touch-ups.
