This fragment is from a sarcophagus with rounded ends, sculpted in high relief with the Four Seasons. Here is preserved the upper right corner with a lion’s head, his mane deeply drilled, and a winged Season, perhaps Autumn. He is depicted as a youth with thick curly hair, wearing a chlamys over his shoulders, and holding a basket overflowing with grape leaves and fruit. The surface retains its original high polish. For a complete sarcophagus with the same subject, see the example from the Vatican Museums, no. 255 in G. Koch, Rőmische Sarkophage.
