Lot Essay

“Halston is the first All-American fashion designer. He never copies Paris. He just gives the American woman what she wants: simple clothes that are easy to care for – but look rich. He uses the All-American colors like red, white, blue, green, yellow, orange, and purple. And lots of black. His colors always remind me of a box of crayons.” (A. Warhol, Exposures, London, 1979, p. 39)
