Lot Essay

The attribution for the present lot is based on a closely related design for a settee, with similarly curved arms and spindles, exhibited at the 1878 Exposition Universelle in Paris with William Watt, and illustrated that same year in Building News (see Soros, op cit, p. 108, fig. 129.1).
