拍品專文

This chair directly correlates with the House of Lords armchair designed by Pugin illustrated in P. Atterbury & C. Wainwright Pugin A Gothic Passion, London, 1994, fig. 230, p131. That example does not exhibit the ‘scale’ carving to the uprights seen in the current lot, a decorative detail which can be seen repeated in the Palace of Westminster, such as to the Clerk’s Table on the House of Lords Chamber, and to the two octagonal tables designed by Pugin for the Prince’s Chamber.
