Bruce James Talbert (1831-1881) was a leading Scottish architect and designer of the second half of the 19th century. Predominantly known for his neo-Gothic furniture designs, he was influential in molding the Victorian Gothic Revival aesthetic thanks in part to his publications Gothic Forms in 1867 and Examples of Ancient & Modern: Furniture, Metal Work, Tapestries, Decorations in 1876. A number of his drawings and designs can be found in the collection at the Victoria & Albert museum today (for a similar textile example see accession no. T.77&A-1976).
