Lot Essay

Kate Harris studied at the National Art Training School in South Kensington before joining the staff of William Hutton & Sons as a designer working from the small London factory that they opened in 1898. Widely celebrated for her Art Nouveau designs, a silver cup and cover by Harris and produced by William Hutton & Sons, now in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London (Acc. No. M.22&A-1966), was a prize winner at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. Recent works by Kate Harris for William Hutton & Sons at auction include two enameled buckles, sold at Christie's, London, 27 November 2007, lots 74 and 75, and a tray, sold at Christie's, London, 27-28 November 2012, lot 570.
