Lot Essay

The pattern seen here is identified as a "most unusual variation of Queen Anne" by W. Hood Jr., Tiffany Silver Flatware, 1845-1905: When Dining Was an Art, Suffolk, 1999, p. 210 fig. 323, and p. 291 figs. 444a and 444b. The gilt ice cream spoons illustrated by Hood are applied with similar leaves, fish, and crabs, and engraved with similarly trailing foliage to the forks in the present lot.
