The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Please note antique textiles exhibit wear, losses, soiling and tears from normal use and repurposing. Some elements are re-pieced together with complimentary or contemporaneous textiles to mend.
This impressive kesi cover with strong pigments and fine weaving. The cover is padded and lined with a complementary yellow cotton backing. There are scattered small pinholes and tears throughout. One larger crescent shaped tear near corner of inner border (31⁄4 in. long approx.). Areas of pulling and separation to the silk, in particular to the gold metallic thread inner border. Light soiling and discoloration, some rose and salmon pigments are slightly faded. Overall a beautiful example of an early textile.
Christie’s strongly suggests viewing this lot in person. You may wish to contact a professional textile conservator with any additional questions as we are unable to provide in-depth condition analysis.
