Lot Essay

Although the vase described by Stephen Bushell and William Laffan, , The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1910, no. 550 appears to be the same as this vase, the height is listed as 23½ inches; this discrepancy may be explained by the fact that the catalogue included in its description "with carved ebony cover" which may have been included in the measurements.
