Lot Essay

Tsarevich Alexei was a historical drama based on the novel Peter and Alexei by Russian Symbolist author Dmitry Merezhkovsky (1865-1941). Benois designed the costumes and décor for the production which was staged in Petrograd at the Bolshoi Drama Theater in 1920.
