Costume design for 'Le Capitaine Fracasse': Jacquemin Lampourde
Alexandre Benois designed the set for the 1929 film Le Capitaine Fracasse directed by Alberto Cavalcanti (1897-1982) and Henry Wulschleger (1894-1943), starring Pierre Blanchar (1892-1963) as the protagonist - Baron de Sigognac or 'Le Capitaine Fracasse'. The film was based on the eponymous novel by French Romanticist Théophile Gautier (1811-1872).

Costume design for 'Le Capitaine Fracasse' Condition report: The sheet is hinged at the upper edge to a mat board. All four edges are uneven with associated minor nicks and tears. There is a hard fold spanning the width of the composition at the center with resulting separation and two repaired tears at each side. There is pronounced creasing overall with a concentration in the lower right corner. There is localized stray pigment overall. Traces of the estate stamp and inscriptions on the reverse are visible on the front. There is surface dirt and staining visible overall. The sheet has discolored and the pigments have faded slightly.

Condition report: The sheets are hinged to the mat boards at the top edges. The sheets have cockled slightly. There is slight wear to all four edges and corners of all sheets, with some minor associated losses. The pigment has rubbed in places and there are minor pigment losses in some. There is light surface staining overall. There are traces of possible retouching on either side of each figure. The sheets have discolored and the pigments have faded slightly.
