Lot Essay

Baguès Frères produced a wide variety of light fixtures and iron work in both modern and revival styles, particularly of the Louis XIV and Empire periods. They expounded upon and merged themes from the varying periods, using fruit, flowers, and animals, in the forms of fountains and even windmills. Their preferred media included clear or opalescent glass beads and rock crystals, set into silver or gilt mounts. The present lot is an excellently illustrated example.
