The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Please note antique textiles exhibit wear, losses, soiling and tears from normal use and repurposing. Some elements are re-pieced together with complimentary or contemporaneous textiles to mend.
A French brocaded ribbed silk, with polychrome floral sprigs and silver metallic leaf meander, circa 1750: 221⁄8 in. (56.2 cm.) wide, 323⁄4 in. (83.2 cm.) long (uneven edges). Overall with some minor fading and discoloration. The ribbed silk ground with areas of abrasions, snags, and a few spot stains. The brocaded threads similarly with areas of rubbing, losses and fraying. The metallic threads with losses to the metallic wrapping revealing base threads beneath. The ends with fraying and the selvage edges with some minor rubbing and fraying.
An Italian brocaded silk with beige ground and brocaded with flower-heads in shades of mauve, green and blue, 18th century: 21 in. (53.3 cm.) wide, 437⁄8 in. (111.4 cm.) long. Overall with some minor discoloration including soiling to one end and areas of staining. The beige silk ground with abrasions revealing polychrome threads from the reverse in some areas. The polychrome silk floss with some rubbing and minor fraying. The ends frayed and uneven.
An Italian silk chasuble, of green, yellow, mauve and pink silk, with heavy silver metallic ground, 18th century: 261⁄2 in. (67.3 cm.) wide, 68 in. (172.7 cm.) long. Pieced. Overall with some fading and spot staining. The metallic ground with scattered losses to the metallic wrapped threads revealing base threads beneath and areas of shattering and abrasions. The polychrome silk floss with areas of rubbing and losses revealing the ground beneath in areas. The ribbon frim lifting in areas. The pale blue silk lining with heavy soiling/staining, fraying and losses to the edges and areas of repair.
A Continental cream ribbed silk, brocaded in shades of blue, green and pink with silver metallic meander, 19th century: 215⁄8 in. (54.9 cm.) wide, 393⁄4 in. (101 cm.) long. Overall with some minor discoloration and soiling. The cream ground with some minor areas of abrasions. The polychrome brocaded silk threads with some minor rubbing and fraying. The silver metallic threads with losses to the wrapping, revealing base threads beneath. The ends with some fraying, one long edge with evenly spaced nail holes.
Three fragments of a Continental silk heavily brocaded with peach, berry, green and gold metallic on a taupe ground: Panel A - 91⁄2 in. (24 cm.) wide, 461⁄4 in. (117.5 cm.) long (uneven); Panel B - 11. in. (27.9 cm.) wide, 471⁄4 in. (120 cm.) long (uneven). Panel C - 11 in. (27.9 cm.) wide, 47 in. (119.4 cm.) long. Pieced. Overall with some minor discoloration. The ground with areas of rubbing and abrasions, revealing the polychrome threads beneath in some areas. The polychrome silk floss with some minor rubbing and snags. The gold metallic threads with some areas of shattering and abrasions as well as scattered losses to the metallic wrapped threads revealing base threads beneath.
