Lot Essay

The present lot shows a scene from the Australian Opera's 1978 production of La Traviata for which Michael Stennett served as the costume designer. He designed the costumes for many seasons at the Australian Opera, which included the productions of Rigoletto (1972), Jenůfa (1974), Così fan tutte, Madama Butterfly (1975), La Traviata, Fra Diavolo (1977), Lucia di Lammermoor (1979), I Masnadieri, Les Huguenots, Tosca (1980), I Puritani, Adriana Lecouvreur (1984), Un Ballo in Maschera (1985), Peter Grimes, La fille du régiment (1986), The Force of Destiny (1988) and Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci (1989).
