Overall good condition with light surface scratches and minor wear commensurate with age and gentle use. The wood surfaces with scattered nicks, abrasions, edge chips, and scattered areas of restoration. With some splitting to the wood grain, typical with aging of this material, stable. The wood surfaces have been refinished at some point in the history of the piece. Each bookcase with one shelf, each lacking two. The fabric has been replaced in a manner consistent with the original. With three segments of loose original fabric (8 x 25 in.). With eleven metal shelf clips.
One bookcase with minor edge chips to the top drawer (the largest 1 in.). The proper right side with a minor (1⁄4 x 3⁄8 in.) chip along the carved decoration. The proper left side with four screw holes. Minor edge wear to the shelves along the back with minor paint residue along the lowest shelf.
The other bookcase with a nick to the edge of the paneling (approximately 1⁄2 in.) along the proper right side. The back with an area of restoration (approximately 7 in.) along the top edge; minor splitting and lifting along the top of the wood shelf (approximately 1⁄2 in.); and two missing wooden plugs.
The pair presents well overall and are ready for display.
